Recently, Harvard put out a study stating that the American education system is behind the curve when it comes to helping students find career paths and ways to explore them. It is vital that everyone get a chance to explore their interests and strengths. The cookie cutter image of school, college and career isn’t and hasn’t been working for a lot of students. Many kids go to college because it is the “next step’ with out a clue as to what they want to do as a career.
Kids who should have gone to college get overlooked because they have no direction or guidance.
In America, everyone is guaranteed an education. That is an excellent endeavor. However the approach was to educate “the masses” Providng the same education to each person without taking into account the individual.
This era is about the individual and what he/she brings to the group. There are many discussions and programs examining a new way of teaching and guiding the youth of America. The idea is to allow students to explore their interests, expand on their strengths, and how they will use them.
As the article states, European education has been using a program that has had success with aiding the student to build on their abilities and interests. Perhaps we will adopt a similar program…….
But in the meantime, explore when you can….be creative how ever that is to you and find out what your strengths are. It makes the process much more enjoyable
